Hey Countess!
The topic I wish to tackle today is godliness. What I understand godliness to be is when you feel that there is nothing standing between you and being right with God. Over the years as a born again Christian, I have come to understand that godliness means different things to different people. And today I want to share about what godliness means to me and the areas of godliness that have always been important to me.
Recently I stumbled upon chapter 3 of the book of Jeremiah in the Bible that inspired me to review my steps to see where I could have potentially wronged God. I believe that God speaks to us through His word and so I felt like He was telling me to change areas of my life that displease Him. I am a person who holds righteousness in high esteem more than any other thing in the world. The word of God in Romans 3:22 tells us that through faith in Jesus Christ we are indeed righteous. This does not mean that just because we believe that Christ died for our sins we are then magically transformed into being faultless. See, it would have been wonderful if this was the case, but I have come to know that believing this is actually just the beginning of the journey to being godly… and unfortunately our souls live inside flesh, making it harder to get to the point of truly feeling godly.
As a 14 year old who had just gotten saved, the only sin I thought could potentially deter me from my quest of staying righteous was having sex outside of marriage. Hahaha. See I trusted that everything else was “small waters”. But we will discuss more of this on another day. So my focus was making sure that no boy I dated even thought that sex with me would happen before we walked down the aisle. Thank goodness I have managed to keep the coockie where it belongs. The truth is there are many steps leading to that relatively-dreaded act, that deem us to have sinned before we even get there physically. This is where it gets interesting. The word of God in Matthew 5:28 says that if anyone looks at another person lustfully, that person has committed adultery in their heart. What a twist right? I thought so too! Hahaha! This is something one never thinks about, and especially in this social media age we were born in. It is so much easier to end up looking at a picture that grabs your attention in a way that leads our hearts into sin so easily. It takes discipline not to stop and feed your eyes when you see an inappropriate picture, but it takes even more discipline to then keep your thoughts from wondering about the possibilities of sexual encounters. I am not ashamed to say that this is one area in which I have stumbled many times, as I am sure many also have.
Romantic relationships are one other area in which children of God can easily fall into sin. It is very easy to think about your boyfriend lustfully, and to even act on your lustful thoughts. I am fortunate to be in a relationship with a godly man (2 Corinthians 6:14), who wants to be righteous, especially in this area, the same way I do. But it has not been an easy ride, I must say. We soldier on still… Touching in private areas should always be a no-no because let us not lie, one can derive sinful pleasure from that and end up committing sin against ones own flesh (1 Corinthians 6:18). It is important to always be conscious of this and to do everything in your power not to fall into this trap. Avoid places that will induce the urges, if you have to. I know many will disagree with this, but I believe two people trying to please God should also avoid kissing on the lips and other areas that induce unholy (at-least until you are married) desires. I cannot provide a Bible verse for this, but for me, I do it for my sanity and to be sober-minded in this regard (1 Peter 5:8).
There are many other ways one can sin. Ways such as stealing, lying, scheming, and bribery that seem like nothing, but that are in actual fact, damaging. These kind of sins not only affect the person committing them, they affect other parties concerned, and the nation as a whole because they lead to corruption. I think it is important, especially for society’s sake, that we avoid such behavior.
One of the most important things to do as a Christian is to ensure that your chance to enter Heaven is not compromised; keeping a tight relationship with God is an essential part of ensuring you succeed in getting there. The word of God in Romans 8:38-39 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God, yes, and that His grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9), but can you imagine how happy God will be when he sees how you actively decide to be righteous daily? Ooh! The thought of making God happy alone makes me excited!
I hope this post has added some value to your life. From here, you and I continue on the quest to conquer sin. Feel free to add your thoughts on any area that grabbed your attention in this passage. God bless you!
All love
Queenly Countess ❤
