How to Get out of a State of Dread

Hi Countess!

You know that state of stillness and dread that you sometimes get, that you dislike? You keep guessing what it’s resulting from but there is no real ground to what you come up with? Well guess what? We all get that feeling once in a while. I have felt this way so many times before, that I have decided that I am going to find ways of snapping out as soon as I am dragged into it. Here are four ways to ensure that you get back to feeling good again:

  1. The Power of “I AM”

Human beings like to declare the state they are in. For example, a person with flu often finds herself saying “oh I’m so sick” and one feeling lazy will say “This is going to be a long day”. Words are important because they turn into actions. Proverbs 4:24 encourages us to keep negative words out of our mouths.  Even if you feel negative, do not say how badly you are feeling because that will only result in you feeling more dreadful. Rather say positive words like “I am happy”, “I am healthy”, “I am rich” and “I am beautiful”. I guarantee you that you will begin to feel better. I have found that using these words in the morning helps me remain positive throughout the day.

  1. Singing Worship Songs

When you are hit with the feeling of unease, all you want to do is destruct yourself from that state. Of course your human mind thinks watching funny videos or hanging out with friends, will do it. But it never does. Worship on the other hand does the trick. Hebrews 12:2 reminds us to look unto God because he is the author and finisher of our faith. Put on your favourite worship song and start singing along. Not only are you adoring God at that moment, your attention is on something bigger than yourself. And so fully focusing on giving praises to God, reminds you of His greatness and takes away the dread you are feeling.  And this is such a quick fix!

  1. Think About Your Blessings

Research has shown that people who are grateful, are the happiest. People who complain a lot, are often miserable and always unhappy. Choose to be grateful. Instead of complaining about how your work is boring and how early or late your class starts, how about you remember that some people do not have a job or cannot afford to study like you? Having a good friend or family member is reason enough to be grateful. Being in good health is also a reason to be thankful. You have an old-fashioned phone? Haha at least you are connected. Your shoes are a little outdated? Guess what? They are still protecting your feet. You are healthy and someone else is in great pain and wishing they can be well again to walk like you can and dance like you can!

  1. Understand That Your Existence Matters

I have come to realise that we often spend our days thinking about how if the one thing we so desperately want could happen, we would finally be happy, and life will be worth living. And then that thing happens and we are still the same ungrateful people, and so we wait for the next thing and the next… One has to condition their  mind to look forward to every moment of the day. From the moment you open your eyes in the morning, start looking forward to saying a prayer to God. After all you are spending time with the King of Kings! After that, look forward to rejuvenating your body with a bath or shower – you are going to feel fresh after that and that’s the best feeling! After you have gotten yourself ready, start looking forward to the impact you will make in the day – Someone is bound to smile from seeing your face.  You are going to work on a task and add a bit or more of yourself to it and this means you have left your mark. That’s wonderful. There is purpose in your being alive.

Never spend your time wondering what the purpose of life is. Spend your time living the best way you can and be happy at it!

All Love ❤

Queenly Countess
